It is not usual for me to have holidays during the summer, the world in tourism is like that, you have to work when the most of the people is enjoying. I like to work helping people with their holiday dreams but I really miss the summertime.
For one thing or another this year I had more free time than I use to, so I have taken any free moment for me, to enjoy as much as I could and here I am, saying hello to the new season with a big smile on my face and with lots of good memories to keep.
The summer is a pleasure, this is a big truth: endless days, friends coming back home for holidays, one party after another, one meeting after another, the sun, the sea… If you want you can have a different plan everyday or just relax in any of the paradises that Galicia has to offer.
Friends are always a good source of information, plans or ideas. Friends are the best “slow plan” that I can imagine: long talks trying to catch up or to solve the world problems, days on the beach, some beers at sunset, walks, meals and meetings… I just let me go with their ideas and, this way, I found new places and I fell in love a little bit more with Galicia.
Ancoradoiro was one of the discoveries. I was there a couple of days in July, of course, with friends.
Ancoradoiro is a little beach really close to Muros, a little town with which I fell in love years ago during another trip. Muros and its houses on the waterfront with the medieval arcades is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful views in the area.
There was the Carmen Festivities, so the plan was to relax and enjoy the beaches, and take advantage of the party. “El Carmen” in Galicia is very important, Carmen Virgin is the patron saint of sailors, and this is a sailors and fisherman land, so it is celebrated in almost every coastal village.
Festivities in little towns taste different, taste better. Streets getting crowded with people waiting to see the fireworks, everybody on the square to enjoy the music shows and dance. Every place and everyone is full of good mood… and it is contagious!
There is a camping in Ancoradoiro, where we stayed, just in front of the beach and near to Lariño and Area Maior (more beaches), from there the views to the sea at sunset are like taken from a dream. The atmosphere is just a wonder, I could feel how there are some families that spend there every summer and now they know each other like if there all were a family… a summer family. It is a nice feeling.
The weather couldn’t be better, the water was so nice (that usually is quite cold, this is the Atlantic…) and I was full of a relaxing feeling and happiness being all day outside in nature, close to the sea, and coming back home through a path that was crowded of fireflies illuminating every step and every little space in the way.
Trips like this, although they are short, make me forget the daily rhythm and I remember old times when I had all the time in the whole world, so much time that I could even get bored, summers of family and sea where the activities were go from home to the beach, go from home to the market and not much more. Now I miss those summers, when the best is just breathe on the open air and that´s it, you are fine. I miss them so much that everytime that I have a chance like this one in Ancoradoiro I can´t help thinking that these are little bites of happiness.
